Marquee from a selection

Just so you know, I'm using Photoshop 3.0.5.

Okay, I have a solid black, antialiased selection, I want to
be able to use that shape to cut a transparent region out
of a different layer...how would I do this?

There's quite a bit of feathering which I want to preserve.
