Lightning

I need to make realistic lightning. Any help or tutorial about how I
could go about it? My requirement is that I need a single lightning
arm to spike out from the left in the dimension of 120(wide)x20(high).

OR, if anybody has an image of a clean lightning over black/dark grey
background (freeware) that they could share, please let me know? (i
hope this is permitted?)

Software I have: Photoshop 5, Fireworks 3, CorelDRAW! 9 (but not
                 Photopaint) on Windows.

PS: I already know of Xenofex but can't use it right now.
