Alexandra, there are many tricks for making good graphics very small. One is
to resize the image but first you change the resolution (I like 72) before
resizing to fit your page design. In fact if I am scanning in many pictures
for a site, I scan them using a 72 res. crop to delete wasted information,
then go to levels and tweak, save as in index and experiment using 4,5,6,8
until I have the best result for the least size.
Sounds like a lot of work, but when you do it a few times, instinct takes
over and generally a pic can be scanned and completed within 2 min.
