Keith,

I see what is going on although I don't know the exact answer to your
problem.  The fade effect on the movie URL is achieved using only 2 colors -
the light blue and the dark blue.  The effect is achieved by a higher
concentration of dark pixels near the bottom and fewer near the top (the
"pointillism" effect).  Don't have the answer to your question, but an eager
to see the solution posted.
