FrontPage 98's HTML editor

My copy of FrontPage 98 shows the HTML coding--and the other data, too--as,
I'm guessing, some kind of machine language. I can enter the tags and data
in plain text. They print to the screen in plain text, but when I return to
the HTML editor from the preview screen, my work has been transformed into
lines and squiggles.

I've tried contacting the MS support site; no luck yet. I've tried reloading
the program a few times, no change, not even for a moment. Any suggestions?
This little glitch has hampered my production . . .
