I use the (PSP6) COLORS - ADJUST - BRIGHTNESS/CONTRAST control to
do this - turn the contrast way down (anything from -70 to -95)
and the brightness way up (similar values, just "+" rather than
"-").  If you lose too much colour, you can then use the COLORS -
ADJUST - HUE/SATURATION/LIGHTNESS control to turn the saturation
right up (to 100% sometimes), which will bring a little strength
back into the faded colour.
