Sorry, I was not very clear on what I was saying there. What I 'meant'
was....." You could have MANY large graphics (properly optimized) and still
be well under 1MB." The restriction of 1M for sending an email html page
might sound reasonable to some, but I personally would not wish to be
receiving 1MB files on any mailing list on a regular basis, especially if it
is unnecessary. Like I said in my post, unless the actual content
comprised of a lot of images (say for example if you are in real estate, and
are sending out photos of current listings etc), then I don't see why you
would need to have more than 50K dedicated for your graphics.
Of course, graphics can and do have some very large file sizes, but this is
primarily for print as opposed to web based where you don't need a large
physical size or image resolution. I didn't mean to imply that all images
are under 1MB....only that there normally is no need for such hefty sized
graphics in html pages.
If I can't get an image below 30K for a website, I reconsider using it at
all. While I understand that the original poster meant that it would be
sent via email, not viewed on the web....the files still have to be
downloaded via email, and it would be better to keep it as small as
possible.
Personally, if you find that there are a lot of graphics that must be
displayed (ie my example with the house listings), you would be better off
sending your newsletter out, and then referrencing any images to a web-based
site for those people who wish to look at them. All they should need to do
is click on the link from your newsletter to open the website.
Sorry to drift so far off topic!
