Hmm, checking it out it seems I wasn't quite correct, indeed.

eeeeee on my machine in both Netscape 3.0x and 4.0x produces an off-white,
cream or oyster.
dddddd on my machine produced in Netscape 3.0x a fairly bold blue a few
times, but now has settled down to the standard Netscape grey in both 3.0x
and 4.0x.

I'm surprised that Netscape, with its palette, goes anywhere but to white
with eeeeee. Can anyone explain why?
