To each his/her own, I'm sure. With that caveat in mind, here's what I do:
1. I create and save the initial graphic in the desired size, using a name
such as frame-a.gif.
2. Frame-a.gif is then used to create (and save as) frame-b.gif.
3. Frame-a.gif is refreshed and used to create (and save as) frame-c.gif, or
frame-b.gif is used to create frame-c.gif.
In short, each frame of the animation is based on either the initial frame
or the prior frame.
