You can make counter with javascript, but you either need to use cookies
(ouch), or use a perl/cgi file to read write to a  file, because java and
javascript cannot write to files, as far as I know. If you want a simple
counter there are a few places to go, freecode.com is good, and by far
the easiest is to go to a cgi-hosting site and get your own counter
there, free, with no ads (or names, links etc.).
