A Background question

Dear Friends,

I am making my college site and I am having a problem with the background. I 
have specially made a background for the site. It is a white background 
which has the words "HR" written on it, in a light shade of grey. Now the 
problem I am facing is how do I make the words "HR" appear in the centre of 
the screen, i.e. irrespective of which screen resolution you view it in 
(640x480 or 800x600) when I use the following tag:
<body background="back.gif">????

I have tried making the background in various sizes (i.e. 640x480, 800x600, 
732x542) so that the words "HR" would appear in the middle of the screen, 
but have been unsuccessful. Finally I settled with 800x300 (the word "HR" 
appears thrice in the background), but when I view it in 640x480 resolution 
the words "HR" does not appear in the center. So how do I make the word "HR" 
appear in the center??????
