To really know what you have working for you and
against you I recommend taking basic foundation-year
classes at a reputable art school or university. Books
can be valuable tools -- but there is knowledge and an
evalution process that can only effictively take place
in a structured environment with trained
professionals.

I know a lot of designers who are "self-taught" -- but
even they have found the need to take a class or two
now and then. I still take them myself as I feel the
need. I dont know if you have an Art League in your
area -- but they are well-known for great classes and
instructors at rock-bottom prices.

Most major Bookstores carry the "Artists Market"
series for artists and designers. This series covers
all kinds of topics relating to principles of art and
design, business practices, ethics, media etc. Wucious
Wong of the School of Visual Arts has written a number
of books about design, color theory and the like.
Northern Light Books is dedicated to publishing on
topics relating to all areas of the visual arts and
crafts.

Good Luck

Lisa
