Try Caligari Truespace for 3D authoring. I haven't used it personally but I
know my brother uses it to create 3D fonts for his website--and they turn out
rather nice. You didn't mention whether you were searching for freeware or
not. Truespace3 is approx. $500. If you'd still like to look into it, check
