Try moving the text into place *before* you set it in as permanent. That is,
when you have set the text, and it is still selected, if you are working in
3.0.

Another great tip for text in Photoshop is Extensis PhotoTools (disclaimer
here). It allows you to work with text in it's own window, working with as
many type styles/colors etc at once, and adjusting kerning, leading letter
width, etc. I love the software, and it only cost me about $20, since I picked
it up at a college bookstore sale. It probably runs $50-$100 regular price.
