I also have read that, but it is false.

Including the dimensions of an image allow the browser to lay out the page
before the image is downloaded, so that any text can go to its permanent
position on the page and remain there. Without dimensions, the image gets
downloaded, the browser then discovers its dimensions, and shoves text
aside to put the image where it belongs. This is a frustrating experience
for the user; have you ever had text leap out of view?

I'm sure virtually any of these programs could give you dimensions. Load
the image in any of them, and on the menu look for "Image Information" or
something of the sort.

In psp4x and following, if you have the image loaded, and the cursor over
it, the dimensions are displayed, along with color depth, on the status
bar. Perhaps PSP3 does the same.
