Photoshop 4 error msg ?

Recently I have been getting 2 messages when starting up Photoshop 4:

1. Could not load the "Fast Core Routines" module because of a program error.
2. Could not load the "Multiprocessor Support" module because of a program
error.

Of course the messages give no idea about what the error is.
I must admit I am not even sure what these two functions do.

If someone can help clear this up, please do.
