For purpose of discussion, we'll define "look much worse" to mean "don't
look the way you intended for them to look."  <g>

Were I to guess, it would be that you've colors which 'conflict' with the
pallet being used by Netscape. To explain further would involve some
details of how the computer display hardware works (and its interactions
with the human eye). The best technical description I've seen is in Charles
Petzold's "Programming Windows" series (Microsoft Press). As an alternate,
you might check out the "web color" section at http://www.lynda.com and/or
her books on the topic.
