Graphics ?: Phone cord techniques?

A new client of mine sets up phone systems at hotels and bread &
breakfasts. He wants a logo containing a globe (Earth), a phone, the
letters HCG, all encircled by a phone cord. I need suggestion/advice on how
I would go about making a "tileable" phone chord. 

I have Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator and I intend on placing the tiling
pattern on a path in Illustrator. Is that possible? I am relatively new to
Illustrator and I haven't figured out much yet.
