PSP5.0 - Transparency problem

Hi!  I've run into a little problem...

Somehow, through messing about with my preferences, I've changed something
with my transparency settings.  When I set transparency on a .gif, the
background becomes white, for some reason.  I've gone back through all the
preferences I know of that deal with transparency and tolerance, but
nothing's worked.  

Has anyone else ran into this problem?  I'd honestly appreciate it,
considering that all of my pages include a majority of transparent gifs,
and I can't live without the function!
