Well, wanting to keep this graphics-related... my question would be, have
you tried putting together your own system to your specifications? There
are a ton of computer shows around these days, and you can often find
decent prices on hardware and software. I've built custom systems for
people this way. 

If you're doing graphic design work, I'd think you'd consider purchasing
some pieces more low-end and plunk your money into the graphics areas of
the system and those that would make the graphics system run best (Video
Card, CPU, RAM, Monitor... etc.).
