This is true.  I've had printers tell me they couldn't open PageMaker files 
that I had done on the PC.

Yes.  That's what I thought as well.  Same printer gave me alot of grief 
because they said I had to use AI EPS format for them to read it 
properly.  Of course, once I used that format they were still unable to 
read it.  In fact, they claimed they had a PC and weren't able to open the 
zipped files with that.  So I burned them onto CD and after extensive 
testing handed them over.  Again they weren't able to access the files - 
this was using PageMaker with the images embedded.  Needless to say, I 
stopped using that printer.

This sounds pretty much like my experience as well.  I wound up spending 
countless hours reworking the files and they never did print them - we had 
to change printers at the 11th hour which proved extremely costly - and not 
just financially.  I swear I nearly had a nervous breakdown over this one.
