Besides small jpg sizes from compression that others have talked about,
there is also pre-caching images on a page before the actual image page.
Either preload images from an javascript "on-load" (which may cause some
error messages) or simply placing the images as 1x1 pixel images somewhere
on the page where you don't notice it. Problem with pre-caching is that the
loader page will take longer to load, as it downloads all the full images.
