Hi AM,
As a designer my answer is a question for you. "What does this 'stock art'
do for the message you are trying to communicate?" If it helps the message
then use it, if not don't.
Also, maybe to answer your next question (not that long ago it was one I
asked) is "How do I know if it helps?" Well, is it there just because or to
fill all that "empty" space? Also I think it might be a good idea keep you
client informed. If you don't want to say "this is what I'm doing what do you
think," maybe present some "roughs" and get their feedback on the subject.
