Tom,
PS 4 *does* work slightly differently, in that you have to export the image
as a .gif instead of just saving it as one, however that's not what Collin was
asking (and hence not what all of the responses were referring to). What you
are saying and what they have been saying are essentially the exact same
thing, however you are talking about the process from start to finish.
Obviously, when you are *making* the gif, you can't use the obnoxious color as
your background color because of the anti-aliasing or feathering that would
need to be done to work with the actual background image. If the wild color,
say lime green, was used during the actual *making* of the gif, all of the
text and anti-aliased images would have a greenish color to all of their outer
pixels. Therefore, Collin was unsure of whether or not the changing of the
background to the obnoxious colors would affect the feathering. All in all, I
think that we have answered his question, and you have also added to it.
The actual process of exporting a gif in PS *is* different, but the process
of creating it is essentially the same and therefore the same rules apply...
:-)

confused. I use PSP4 and 5 -- so maybe it is different -- but I do this
all the time.
I pick an unused color from the 256 color pallet, change it to the
background color (exactly -- if background is FFFFFF I make it FFFFFF).
I then change the background color to something obnoxious, change all
colors in the picture (that now stand out) to the new pallet item. When
this is finished -- I change the background color BACK to the FFFFF.
PSP makes the pallet item the background color -- not the actual color.
You can have 20 FFFFFF's in the pallet -- and all used -- but only one
of them will be transparent.
Does PS4 work differently?
