Something that appears transparent so the background comes through. It could 
be a darkened version of a piece of the background (using your layer modes in 
Photoshop) to set it slightly apart (by giving it a 3D appearance) from the 
background.

This is one of those things that you have to play with ideas and see how it 
looks. The above what I would go try to achieve first but something may pop 
up in the process.
