Gradients might be possible to plug in to ImageReady. Have you purchased
Kai's Power Tools? Last I checked it contains a Gradient Explorer, which
creates frozen pixel gradients as in Photoshop.

(Like Fireworks, ImageReady is designed for screen based displays. Due to
requests, Fireworks 2.0 added scanning and variable resolution, but
generally these types of tools are intended to work in pure pixel
dimensions, rather than pixels-per-inch ratios.)
