If you're trying to make text-on-a-path, and/or trying to apply best
compression to sliced imagery, then you can do it for free, today, via the
Fireworks trial download. It does everything for 30 days, gratis.
http://www.getfireworks.com/ takes it away.

There are longer ways to do the above tasks, but both these problems share
the same solution, and you can use it for real work, free, for a month.
