"EPS" is "Encapsulated PostScript", and was designed to make self-contained
little packages that could be display in other tools. It wasn't designed as
an "editable" PostScript format, although sometimes it's been used that
way.

An arbitrary EPS file can contain pixel-based screen displays, TIFF art,
text blocks, and other elements which aren't curves. (This is particularly
true if the originating program is a page-layout tool like Quark XPress,
rather than a vector-based drawing tool.)

If you're using an arbitrary drawing tool to create line art for Flash,
then the best transfer format is the editable .AI6 format. Take across just
the curves, then optimize the curves and apply fills in Flash.

FreeHand 8 exports optimized SWF files and animations directly, including
automatic curve optimization, symbol replacement, and the writing of native
Flash gradient fills. (FreeHand opens various Illustrator, CorelDRAW,
Acrobat, DXF and other formats... it's sort of a graphics can-opener for
vector-based art.)
