Actually, when I said that I was mistakingly thinking of the 'longdesc'
attribute, but I do know from experience 'lowsrc' works in MacMSIE4+, and
thus I would assume the same for the wintel platform.

More specifically, it only works in JavaScript1.1 compliant browsers. That
includes NN3. It also degrades rather gracefully when contained within an
IF block checking for the `document.images` object.
