My wife and I would be interested in working for the Project
Gutenberg. We would like to work with spanish language texts. She can
do most of the typing, and I can take care of the coding,

I think there are a number of spanish texts already transscribed. In any
case you may want to use OCR instead of typing them in!

is there is
any need for any (HTML, LaTeX,...)

No we will just use XHTML and XML for reasons on longivity of the markup.

3. How are the texts selected? We are particularly interested in the
works of Sor Juana Ins de la Cruz, a baroque mexican poet.

Make sure that there are not any copyright issues (these issues vary from
country to country), then copy his stuff first to ASCII text (with Spanish
additions). Project Gutenberg will need a text document, and the lines
should not be more than 65 characters in length

Once you have the dtext document, markit up in XHTML and XML.

There are several useful pages on the Gutenberg at sailor site on how to use
OCR to copy documents.

XML can handle spanish characters quite easily, you just have to declare
them in the version declaration!

We would like to know:

1. How can we officially join? Or should we just start typing and let
you know when we are ready?

2. Is there a way to help, other than typing?

3. How are the texts selected? We are particularly interested in the
works of Sor Juana Ins de la Cruz, a baroque mexican poet.

4. How do you deal with non-ASCII characters, such as accented vowels
and others?

Thanks for your kind attention.
