At Phone.com, senior technical writers work with members of the publications
department, engineering, product marketing, and others to plan, design,
write, and illustrate online and printed instructional materials. Senior
writers are responsible for planning and delivering a suite of
documentation, sometimes guiding the work of one or more staff or contract
writers.

The PK writer will focus on documenting Phone.com's Porting Kit. The Porting
Kit includes 'C' header files, source code for development utilities, and
source code for a sample device layer. Currently the documentation consists
of a Theory of Operation Manual and a Reference Manual. Effort is needed to
enhance the existing documentation and generate documentation for new
features.

Wireless handset manufacturers such as Motorola and Sony among others use
the Porting Kit to port the UP.Browser to their hardware. The audience for
the PK documentation is primarily developers.

This is a full-time position at Phone.com's offices in Redwood City, CA.
Successful applicants must have:

=B7 At least five years of experience in the computer industry writing
conceptual, procedural, and reference materials for developers in UNIX
(Solaris) or Windows NT environments
=B7 Experience documenting C or C++ APIs
=B7 Experience with standard documentation tools, such as templates, style
sheets, schedules, and documentation plans
=B7 A solid working knowledge of FrameMaker and standard graphics, writing,
and online documentation tools

The strongest candidates will have:
=B7 Embedded application development experience
=B7 Familiarity with Internet protocols and standards, especially HTTP and=
 XML
=B7 Familiarity with network protocols, especially TCP/IP
=B7 Familiarity with wireless communications systems, especially GSM and=
 CDMA
