Hi,

I'm looking for a book on Visual Basic that's written for the practising
programmer. Most beginners' books on VB also assume you are new to
programming ! I'm fed up of books trying to explain what an array or a
variable is, or for that matter what is event driven programming and the
like.

I'm into DB programming as well as some fairly simple apps in VB. I don' t
think I'd want to build ActiveX controls or business objects using VB, but I
really don't know, all I know is I hate WinAPI.

I made the mistake of buying a book called "Visual basic 6 - the complete
reference", by Noel Jerke. This is the (**worst book on VB**) that I've ever
come across, it neither explains the advanced concepts, nor does it delve
into beginner's syntax like explaining what functions are used for what etc.

There was another book "Beginning Visual basic 6" from Wrox Press, this was
too simple, it assumes you are also new to programming.

However I've seen "Murach's Visual Basic 6", which my friend vouches to be
the defenitive guide on DB programming with VB.

In fact all I really want is a book that is similar to the online help file
of VB. I'd like to hear from those who have read that book on VB which you
think is miles ahead of the rest.

BTW what would be a good book on RDBMS concepts?

Cheers,
Srini
