have you tried php? I know you are gung ho about java but they've done a lot
of things integrating java and php is very good with files.

Subject: javascript reading files through java

| hello,
| i am attempting to create a file reader in javascript using java
objects.
| i am creating a URL object, sending its stream (openStream) to an
| InputStreamReader and that to a BufferedReader. when the openStream code
is
| executed, the following error occured:
|
| JavaScript Error: uncaught Java exception
| netscape/security/AppletSecurityException
| ("security.Couldn't connect to 'www.hotmail.com'
| with origin from 'members.xoom.com'.")
|
| i realize there are certain restrictions for accessing files across
servers,
| but is there anyway around it short of a signed script? the URL is:
|
|
http://members.xoom.com/_XMCM/cyanide_7/JavaScript%20File%20Reader/reader.ht
ml
|
| TIA - Cyanide_7
