How about layout your professional recommendation with all reasoning
(pros/cons) outlined in a document.  Be sure to include maintenance time and
cost for each.  The approach is to layout the two choices, and then put the
burden of decision on his shoulders.  Thus, if he makes the "wrong" choice,
he had foreknowledge of your fees, and he already expects to pay for the
service.

Oddly enough, in some situations, I do this with my children.  I don't have
to be the good guy or bad guy in trying to convince them.  They make the
decision and experience the consequences.  Hopefully the decision-making
experience will serve them well as adults.
