sql syntax

I am trying to figure out the correct way to update a
column based on another columns.

I nned to move the values from 3 columns into one
column.  I.e. 

column 1 = college
column 2 = child
column 3 = <null> (or a value)

into one column

column a = college, child ...


Any ideas ?
