I've never actually used http://localhost on the IIS server as I have
multiple web sites and multiple IP addresses. I just tested it and both
localhost and 127.0.0.1 resolve to the default page on the default site
using IE4.01 sp2. I have 127.0.0.1 mapped to localhost in both hosts and
lmhosts. I used to have a problem ages ago until with NETBIOS name
resolution for web sites (as opposed to DNS) before I ran various hotfixes.
But since I've been on sp6a, I've had no problems at all.

Also make sure that the default web site still says "All Unassigned" or you
can ONLY connect on the IP address it has in there (127.0.0.1 counts as a
different address). Lots of things don't work if you change that.
