Bug using Outlook97 on Windows NT 4

I have a development server running Windows NT 4 (SP5). It mirrors a company
server so I can't change the OS. I installed Outlook97 because I
occasionally download email there. Each time a message comes down the
"pipe", I have two click through two error messages both labeled
"ThorConnWndClass:Outlook.EXE - Entry Point Not Found" and containing text
like "The procedure entry point ??0ByteStream@@QAE@XZ could not be located
in the dynamic link library MSOERT.dll" The messages do download but any
attachments are rendered as large blocks of text.

I've tried uninstalling and re-installing Outlook. I've also uninstalled the
entire Office package including Outlook, and then re-installed. I've run
several Microsoft patches. No luck. I've also searched the Microsoft site,
and the Web.

I'm willing to consider non-Microsoft email software among possible fixes
(but I don't know what runs reliably on NT 4). Thanks in advance.
