By default, in your C:\inetpub\wwwroot directory will be both a default.asp
and a default.htm . Get rid of them. By going into the Internet Services
Manager (Start menu/Windows NT 4.0 Option Pack 4/Microsoft Internet
Information Server/Internet Service Manager) and editing the properties of
the default site, you can have IIS use any page name you specify as the
default page. You can also specify and arrange multiple default page names
in the order of precedence that they will be honored as the default page.
There is a number of other things that you should do to a new IIS
installation to close security holes. Checkists and procedures for securing
NT Server and IIS are available online from
http://www.microsoft.com/security and many other places.
