>From an ISP point of view, there is *no* good POP3/IMAP program for Windows
NT. I've tried most of the applications you can find, looking for a
replacement for my current SCO Unix machines, but the bottom line was that
any and all NT implementations of SMTP, POP3 and IMAP suffer from the same
problems -- SLOW.
Keep in mind that I'm running an ISP -- with hundreds to thousands of pieces
of mail being sent/received/popped/imapped per minute with hundreds of
domains and thousands of aliases and forwarders. You may not have the same
needs as I do.
I have clients who use MDaemon... and it kindof works for them... but I
refuse to support them due to the consistent problems they have with it.
IMail from IPSwitch is definitely an improvement over MDaemon. A very
mature product with all the bells and whistles, but as you mentioned,
there's a higher price tag associated with it.
I settled on RedHat 6.0 with Sendmail 8.9.3 and a slightly customized
version Cyrus IMAP/POP3. I use LDAP for authentication so password changes
through the web are a snap to implement (using PHP3).
Software cost: $0.00
Good luck.
