                                                                    I see
that all the time. Even the stock install of RH Linux does this.
It's the identd process. I have not yet looked into it far enough to figure
out how to fix it, but I think it has something to do with the process
running as both a daemon and from inetd.conf. Notice that it occurs exactly
every 10 minutes...

I could be way off on that, though. It hasn't hurt anything, so I never
bothered with it. I'll have to admit that the identd process is strange.
Look at all these processes:

nobody 335 0.0 0.2 1412 592 ? S Mar07 0:00 identd -e -o
root 339 0.0 0.2 1412 592 ? S Mar07 0:31 identd -e -o
root 340 0.0 0.2 1412 592 ? S Mar07 0:00 identd -e -o
root 341 0.0 0.2 1412 592 ? S Mar07 0:00 identd -e -o
root 342 0.0 0.2 1412 592 ? S Mar07 0:00 identd -e -o
root 343 0.0 0.2 1412 592 ? S Mar07 0:00 identd -e -o
root 344 0.0 0.2 1412 592 ? S Mar07 0:00 identd -e -o
root 345 0.0 0.2 1412 592 ? S Mar07 0:00 identd -e -o
root 346 0.0 0.2 1412 592 ? S Mar07 0:00 identd -e -o
root 347 0.0 0.2 1412 592 ? S Mar07 0:00 identd -e -o
root 348 0.0 0.2 1412 592 ? S Mar07 0:00 identd -e -o

One might wonder why the heck it needs to run so many.
