IP Masquerade Questionby "The Web Center" <admin(at)webctr.com> |
|
Home network: 3 Windows machines: Win98 on Pentiums 1 Linux box: RH 6.0 on PII 233 RoadRunner Ethernet In setting up IP Masquarade with the Linux box as server, I was able to get it to recognize the outside world. ifconfig returns eth0 (the link to the modem) and local. ifconfig eth1 returns eth1, but with no activity. Both cards show OK at boot. I can't seem to get connected to the network through eth1 in the MASK configuration, although I do just fine if I just connect to it normally through eth1. I can ping the IP for eth1 from the Linx command line, but its not recognized from the other machines. No lights on the hub eth1 in mask mode either. I can ping the Windows machines internally when I set them up, too. The problem *seems* to be getting the Linux server to recognize the network through eth1 when its set up for IP Masquerade. Any ideas? It's like all the parts work, but the whole doesn't. I rechecked the setup for rc.firewall about 1 million times over the last 3 months (takes me along time to ask for help!), and everything else I can think of. I'm fairly new to Linux...maybe 8 months of part-time study...and I hate to bother people with things when I know time will solve them. Thing is, though, I have about 25 client web sites that I mirror locally and without the masquerade, I have a hard time juggling three-five machines with two dynamic IP addresses...:). Help...??
