Regarding SSI's, sduncan(at)mailco.com writes:

I'm wondering if adding SSI's had little impact for you because
parsed-HTML was already enabled on your server?
Any tuning guides I've come accross recommends turning off
SSI's if you're not using it. Fer instance, from the
Apache FAQ, question F.7. "How do I enable SSI (parsed HTML)?"
we read: "Parsing tends to be EXTREMELY resource-consumptive,
and is not enabled by default." (Emphasis theirs.) I recall
Netscape docs saying the same thing...
