FWIW, a story about public vs copyrighted information can be found in
the article at
http://www.zdnet.com/zdnn/stories/news/0,4586,2550905,00.html
which describes the case of eBay vs Bidder's Edge.
>From a posting in another list I'm on, I take it the ruling basically
says that if a web site says it contains copyrighted material and/or
the website posts a terms-of-use, then it's wrong to use that site's
data (which I take it would exclude using the site's data for
purely personal use - like taping the SuperBowl with your VCR).
But the above article seems to have missed this whole business of
posting a disclaimer.
(Maybe this posting is also suited for hwg-business, but I
didn't feel like subscribing, posting, unsubscribing. But if
somebody here is subscribed there too and you feel such a posting
is appropriate, then by all means have at it.)
