How to grab name/password from http header?

How do I grab the encoded username/password combo
from the HTTP header - preferably using a Perl cgi?

(Yes, I know the REMOTE_USER environment variable has
the username, but I want to forward the username/password
combo from my server on to another server.)

FWIW, I'm using Netscape Enterprise server.
