SSL/DC's - dumb question

Hi All,

Can any explain the process of forms run on a secure server? Usually
details are sent via email, but obviously this is unsecure, unless using
PGP, etc. What I want to know is how to set the whole system up using
Digital Certificates and SSL.

Are the submitted forms written to a file which resides on the secure
server? Also how does the user collect the information submitted - via FTP?
