Thanks guys. I am always looking to save a buck. But after hearing from
you, and since it is not my buck, I think I will suggest we renew
annually with Verisign.
> If I migrate my server to IIS and begin using the MS Certificate Server,
> why would I want to continue to purchase a Verisign ID? Is not the Cert
> Srvr ID capable of issuing the same thing?

Before Verisign issues a certificate thay make a good faith effort to
insure you are who you actually say you are.

When you issue your own certificates the customer has to take your word
for it. If I have a choice of turning my credit card number over to
company A. who has a Verisign certificate confirming with realitively
high level of confidence that you are who you say you are I am a whole lot
more comfortable than for instance giving my info over to company B. who
issues it's own certificates. Not much security in that, just as well post
my card number on the wall of a phone booth. The certificates
that you issue from the MS certificate server are ment to be used to
verify internally within your own system that you are dealing with an
authorized machine in your own organization.
