Hello!
I've been encountering a strange error with IE 4.0. When I, or someone
else, goes to my homepage with IE 4.0. They get a strange response:
<ERROR MESSAGE>
Internet explorer could not open the site
http://www.agricola.umn.edu/people/smai/
The connection with the server was reset.
</ERROR MESSAGE>
Or else:
<ERROR MESSAGE>
Internet explorer could not open the site
http://www.agricola.umn.edu/people/smai/
Could not complete the transaction due to error 800c0008.
</ERROR MESSAGE>
(Of course, my <ERROR MESSAGE> tags are not present in the error; I just
did that to distinguish my error message from the rest of my post)
The front page was simply a client-pull page with a <meta refresh> that
sent the user one level down to the content page. This error ALWAYS
occurred when visiting this particular page. I would then get around it by
typing the direct URL. But sometimes, while going through other pages on
my site, that same error message would pop up, even after a page had been
loaded.
I have found postings on the web that referred to this problem but, alas,
they were written in German, which I do not understand. I know from this
fact , however, that others have encountered this problem.
This does not happen with IE3, NN2, 3, or 4, so I am assuming that it is a
bug in IE4 and that it is a client-side problem, not server-side.
Has anyone seen this before?
Thanks,
--Steve
