Can a stylesheet "crash" a browser? Specifically, Netscape Communicator versions 4.7x for Windoze?by "Sw. Vipal Prem" <vipal(at)vipalprem.com> |

Dear Friends of the HWG Style list: This is my first post to the list. Howdy! First of all, thanks to all of you for your excellent questions and contributions. Also, thanks to Ed Layzor for the ICQ Active list idea--I think this resource has real potential as more and more people join it, worthy comments and cautions notwithstanding. One of the things I have been most fascinated with in developing styles and stylesheets has been trying to achieve fairly similar results in both IE and Navigator/Communicator, and across differing platforms. Through what must be my lack of experience and knowledge, I've been having a heck of a time getting Netscape browsers particularly to behave. In many cases a small change to one <H1> style can mangle the formatting within all the styled text that follows (and is not nested within) it. What concerns me in this letter is how my own website, http://www.vipalprem.com is behaving with respect to Netscape and styles. Apparently my site will crash Netscape 4.7x and reportedly earlier versions when the stylesheet is activated. I use Communicator 4.74 for Windows and if one starts loading among the 5 or so different framesets on my site, Netscape will crash with page fault errors. I did some experimenting with hiding the stylesheet that currently formats the site (by renaming) and I could no longer get Netscape to "crash". Therefore, I suspect there is something goofy about the stylesheet that these versions don't fancy. I've pasted the text of the sheet verbatim within <PRE></PRE> tags and posted the it to my site at: http://www.vipalprem.com/servicios/stylesheet_sample.html, if any of you would like to take a look and offer me your criticism and/or advice.
