This defintion is from http://www.w3schools.com/tags/tag_div.asp

The <div> tag defines a division/section in a document.
It's standard attributes are id, class, title, style, dir, lang,
xml:lang
It also has an align tag which will align the section it applies to in
differ ways. Note that this attribute is not supported in XHTML 1.0
Strict DTD and was decaprecated in HTML 4.01, which simply means it may
become obsolete in the future with no guarantee of broser support.

It does take an ending tag. I have forgotten this a few times when apply
styles with it and receive some interesting results on a few occassions.

You can use it to apply styles to sections of HTML.
The example from the above site is:

<.div style="color:#FF0000;">
<h4>This is a header in a div section</h4>
<p>This is a paragraph in a div section</p>
<.div>
If you put that in to an HTML doc you would get red lettering.

HTH,

Bryan

What is a "div" tag in HTML?
What does it do?
Does it require a close "/div" as well?
