Hello Group,

I've been rather silent these past few months, as I've been taking a break
from webdesign for some personal time. Well, that's over for awhile...

On a recent site design I'm working on, I'm experiencing a rather perplexing
problem with the layout of images in Mozilla. In both MSIE and Opera, the
layout aligns properly, but in Mozilla, hideous gaps are cropping up in the
menu portion of the interface. I'm aware of Mozilla's tendency to align
graphics on the baseline for text, and have a detection script in place to
adjust for that, but I'm still experiencing gaps, much larger than should
exist, and I'm at a loss as to why.

You can view the two samples of this interface at:
http://www.andymangels.com/test/test-png.html and
http://www.andymangels.com/test/test-gif.html

Obviously, one version uses PNG graphics and the other uses GIF graphics,
but otherwise, the two are identical. In MSIE 6.0 and Opera 6.04 on
WindowsXP, these line up perfectly. In Mozilla 1.0 (aka Netscape 7), the
menu itself explodes. All the other graphics line up properly. At first, I
thought the problem was that the menu is constrained in a table, but one of
the excess-space graphics is outside of the table, so that's not it. I've
also considered the problem to be the breaks after the graphics, but that
doesn't seem to be the problem, although tweaking the definition for br in
CSS does modify some of the alignment, but not sufficiently to answer what
the problem is.

Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Kehvan M. Zydhek
